FINAL PROJECT: chosen brand was comme des garcons, season - a/w 13/14. My theme originated from 21st century romance and led to the idea of showing the layers of cakes and pastries within a garment. In my final design above, I have designed and digitally printed the print for the back panels featuring macaroons and cake design. I have also incorporated leather panels on the bottom of the legs against the 2 silk fabrics used for the plain and printed panels. To decorate the pants, I have produced silk and leather roses and stitched them to the trousers. The top was a plain design, emphasisng my idea of white on white and to not take attention away from the detail of the pants.
PLAIN WHITE TEE PROJECT: I have designed a t-shirt that advertises a multicultural society, a world where everyone is one and all the uniqueness and differences we have is celebrated and never discriminated.

CONTEXT OF PRACTICE: My inspiration originated from my first lectures of the year, relating to art history. I enjoyed the Egyptian paintings and started to research the history of their culture, browsing through books on jewellery, monuments, culture etc. I had also visited the British museum a few months beforehand so had some photographs which helped me figure out the idea of Egypt being directed by royalty and identity. However, I did not want to copy what had already been done, therefore I came up with the idea of decorating the body to represent the identity Egypt based their culture around. To fit in with of modern culture, I wanted it to sculpt the body rather than hide it, and exaggerate parts of the body such as the shoulders and hips. Egyptian style consisted of extravagant jewellery pieces, therefore I experimented with bending wire around the body which is demonstrated in my final piece. I also learnt how to laser cut and created a pattern on illustrator which I put into the laser cutting machine in order to create this cut out effect on the leather waist part, with the intention of manipulating Egyptian patterns which can be found in their ‘jewels of the pharaohs’. I got my friend to model my body piece/body decoration and another friend to photograph my piece in the colleges studio, telling him and her how exactly I wanted it to be shot.
CONTEXT OF PRACTICE: Experimenting with fabrics on stand, leather needs to be laser cut and wire attached through eyelets, over the shoulders.
